Some Definitions...
Affirmations – The act of affirming; something affirmed; a positive assertion. Affirmations are a useful method of 'programming' your mind to act in a particular way.
Alpha – A state of the mind where brainwave activity slows down during which we experience hypnosis and which we pass through on the way to and from sleeping state.
Alpha Rhythm – The dominant pattern (8 to 13 cps) of the brain waves of a resting but awake adult.
Altered Consciousness – Synonymous with alpha; terminology used to refer to the state of mind we experience during hypnosis, meditation, or any form of trance.
Anchor – A specific stimulus; sight, sound, work or touch that automatically brings up a particular memory and state of body and mind. Example: 'Our Song'
Anchoring – Establishing a trigger which, when activated, will trigger certain responses; this happens randomly in life, but can be suggested during hypnosis (see also triggers).
Aversion Suggestion – Suggestions given that emphasize negative aspects of a habit, such as finding smoke to smell horrible and/or make someone sick.
Beta – That state of mind we are in during most of our waking hours, the thinking mode.
Beta Rhythm – The dominant pattern (14 to 25 cps) of brain waves found in an alert adult responding to a stimulus.

Compounding – suggestions are repeated to increase its intensity.
CPS – Cycles Per Second (as in measuring brain wave activity)
Delta – The state of mind we enter during deep sleep, total unconsciousness.
Delta Rhythm – Less than 4cps, normally recorded during deep sleep
Hypnosis – A trance state in which a person accepts suggestions unless they conflict with their standards, morals or values.
Hypnotherapy – The utilization of Hypnosis to gain self-improvement.
Induction – a technique to guide a person into a hypnotic state.
Old Tapes – A term frequently used to describe memories that are replayed in the imagination in a manner that influences behavior and/or attitudes.
Post-Hypnotic Suggestion – that part of our mind which is the seat of imagination, emotion, artistic abilities (and other skills), and which takes care of numerous functions without our conscious awareness, such as automatic functions of our organs, etc.
Theta – that state of the mind we are in while dreaming.
Theta Rhythm – (4 to 7 cps) usually recorded by an EEG from subcortical part of the brain.
Triggers – Something seen, heard, felt, etc., which 'triggers' a response, urge, memory, or emotion, etc., such as turning the key in the car might 'trigger' a smoker to like up a cigarette.
